Editorial Review Policy

Last reviewed: May 2026

Overview

CrownBetsList uses a consistent set of editorial criteria to assess and compare UK-licensed sports betting operators. Our aim is to give readers a useful, balanced basis for comparison. We are not an official regulator, and our scores are editorial assessments, not regulatory ratings.

Reviews are conducted independently from commercial relationships. Affiliate commission arrangements are disclosed separately on our Affiliate Disclosure page. Commission relationships do not influence editorial scores or review content.

How we select operators

We select operators based on two primary factors: they must hold a valid UK Gambling Commission licence, and they must be actively available to UK customers at the time of review. We consider operators across a range of sizes and specialisms — from large multi-sport sportsbooks to niche racing specialists. Being selected for review does not imply any endorsement or recommendation.

Our review criteria

Each operator is assessed against the following criteria. Scores are weighted across all categories to produce an overall editorial score out of 10.

Licensing and Compliance

We only list operators that hold a valid UK Gambling Commission licence. Licence status is checked at the time of review. We do not list operators that are not licensed for the UK market.

Site Usability

We assess how easy it is to navigate the platform, find betting markets, access account settings, and locate responsible gambling tools. We favour clear layouts and accessible account controls.

Sports and Market Variety

We consider the breadth of available sports and betting market types — pre-match, in-play, antepost, and specials. We note the range of sports covered and depth of markets within each sport.

Mobile Experience

We assess how the platform performs on mobile devices, including whether a dedicated app is available, how responsive the mobile browser version is, and whether all key account and betting functions work on smaller screens.

Payment Options

We note the payment methods available for deposits and withdrawals, including debit cards, e-wallets, and bank transfer options. We do not assess processing times, which can vary and are determined by the operator.

Offer Terms Clarity

We assess how clearly any advertised free bets or promotions are explained — whether terms are accessible before registration, and whether minimum odds requirements and eligibility conditions are stated in plain language.

Responsible Gambling Visibility

We assess whether deposit limits, time limits, cooling-off options, and self-exclusion tools are easy to find. UK operators are required to provide these tools by the UKGC. Ease of access is a key factor in our assessment.

About our scores

Scores are editorial assessments based on the criteria above. They represent our view at the time of review and may not reflect subsequent changes made by the operator. Scores are not official ratings, regulatory assessments, or guaranteed assessments of any operator's reliability or future performance.

Scores are set independently for each operator. We do not assign identical scores to all operators or inflate scores to make the comparison appear more favourable. Not every operator will score well on every criterion.

Review updates

We aim to keep reviews reasonably current. However, operator features, markets, payment methods, and platform design can change at any time without notice. Readers should always check the operator's own website for up-to-date information before registering.
